About the Center

The U.S. Department of Energy Gulf Coast Clean Energy Application Center (GC RAC) is based at the Houston Advanced Research Center in The Woodlands, Texas. It was created with funding from the US DOE to promote clean energy technology through the use of combined heat and power (CHP), waste heat recovery (WHR), and district energy (DE) in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. The Center attempts to educate prospective adopters of clean energy, foster clean energy technologies as viable technical and economic options in the three-state region, and to leverage existing and potential regional resources.

Mission

The mission of the GC RAC is to help the DOE double the nation's clean energy capacity from an estimated 46 GW to 92 GW by 2010 by being a champion for CHP, WHR, and DE in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Goal

The goal of the GC RAC is to identify, facilitate, or positively influence the development of 1500 MW of CHP, WHR, and DE in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Texas.

Our Services

The GC RAC is here to facilitate additional implementation of CHP, WHR, and DE in Texas, Louisiana, and Oklahoma. We promote the deployment of integrated systems that provide both electrical generation and thermal energy that can be used to provide heating and/or cooling for buildings or industrial manufacturing applications.

GC RAC provides basic information and assistance to anyone interested in clean energy technologies or applications including:
  • CHP, WHR, and DE technology & application descriptions
  • Case studies
  • CHP, WHR, and DE installation database
  • Information regarding building screening tools
  • Information regarding project development such as utility, emissions, and siting issues
  • Information regarding ongoing News & Events
  • Assistance publicizing an event or project
  • Lists of local resources
  • Speakers bureau
  • Project support services
  • Screening analysis/feasibility studies

Please contact us if you are interested in technical support on a specific project.
